Icardi leaves Galatasaray as free agent

Galatasaray have confirmed the exit of Mauro Icardi following the expiration of his contract.

Icardi spent four seasons with the Super Lig outfit following his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, and has now been linked with a move to Brazil or his native Argentina.

The 33-year-old hit the ground running in Turkiye, scoring 22 goals and providing seven assists in 24 games during his first league campaign for Galatasaray.

Indeed, across his first two seasons in the Super Lig (2022-23 and 2023-24), no player scored more often (47) or directly contributed to more goals (62) than the former Inter striker.

He netted four times in seven games to start the 2024-25 season, but would not feature again for the rest of the campaign after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Icardi scored 14 league goals last term, but 19 of his 31 appearances came off the bench as he was the second option behind Victor Osimhen.

Galatasaray have also made a signing, with Lesley Ugochukwu joining on a season-long loan from Burnley.

They have an obligation to sign the former Chelsea midfielder permanently next summer.
