According to numerous reports, Dominik Szoboszlai has reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool over the terms of a new contract. The new deal is reportedly set to keep the Hungary captain at Anfield until the summer of 2031.
Following an underwhelming Premier League campaign – and that’s putting it mildly – Liverpool are in need of serious reinforcements during this transfer window. Newly appointed head coach Andoni Iraola recently agreed with such an assessment and confirmed that the club were working on signing new players.
However, Szoboszlai signing a new contract and reaffirming his Liverpool future might just prove to be the most important development, whatever else may happen. The 25-year-old midfielder, one of the few who performed well for the Merseysiders in 2025-26, was about to enter the final two years of his previous contract, and that is usually the point when the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich start circling around.
For Liverpool, who obviously consider Szoboszlai as a top player and a leader on the pitch, it is of vital importance not to allow another Alexader-Arnold/Konate fiasco.
Dominik Szoboszlai set to commit his future to Liverpool by penning a new long-term contract. Huge boost for new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Nothing signed yet but outline agreement in place with the Hungary international.
