According to multiple sources, Manchester United have reached a full agreement for the transfer of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
The Red Devils made a rather sudden move for the 29-year-old, whose World Cup campaign with Belgium came to an end in the quarter-finals a few days ago. They’ve apparently triggered the release clause in his contract set at just over €40 million, and agreed personal terms with the player himself very quickly.
United were heavily linked with Atalanta’s Ederson, but it seems the Brazilian’s medical didn’t go as planned and that move fell through. But the 20-time English champions reacted quickly, completing a deal for Andrey Santos from Chelsea, and now they’re expected to complete and confirm Tielemans as their new player too.
Tielemans played an important role for Aston Villa as they finished fourth in the Premier League last season – one place behind United – and won the Europa League. In all competitions, he made a total of 134 appearances for the Birmingham club, scoring 10 goals and producing 25 assists.
