Jose Mourinho is ready for the “mission” ahead of him at Real Madrid.
Mourinho returned to Madrid for his second spell last month but has now officially started work ahead of pre-season.
The 63-year-old previously took charge between 2010 and 2013, winning 126 of his 174 games at the helm (D27 L21).
He also won one LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey and one Supercopa de Espana in that time.
Madrid have failed to win a domestic trophy in their last two seasons, with Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa all in the dugout throughout that time.
Mourinho is tasked with ending their wait for silverware – as well as uniting a squad which has seemed fractured at times – and he is fully prepared for the task ahead.
“Words are not enough because this feels like a mission,” Mourinho told Realmadrid TV.

“It’s not about worrying about myself or whether I’ll win a lot or a little. I’m here to help everyone become better: players, staff.
“Creating a culture of work, responsibility, ambition, and something I know well – responsibility and the honour of working for Real Madrid. I really like this concept.
“It’s not about working at Real Madrid; it’s about working for Real Madrid. And it’s with this mission-driven spirit that I am here.”
Madrid have already been busy in the transfer market following Mourinho’s return, having already signed Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.
Mourinho led Benfica through an unbeaten Primeira Liga in 2025-26, finishing third behind Porto and Sporting CP.
Madrid will open their season against Real Sociedad.
